Check Out This Year’s LaGrange Leather Quarter Horse Congress Benefit Boot, “Wings of an Angel”

In 2008, the All American Quarter Horse Congress Queen team began careful consideration of a cause to support. Shorty Koger, www.shortyshattery.com, a long-time friend and supporter of the American Quarter Horse Association, had recently lost her sister to breast cancer. A breast cancer survivor herself, Shorty founded the Shirley Bowman Nutritional Program at the University of Oklahoma Cancer Institute in honor of her sister.

This act of greatness touched the Congress Queen team and they selected it to be their platform of service.

After careful planning and much discussion, Babs Bryant of LaGrange Leather was chosen to design a boot to represent the cause. Since then, Babs has designed a new boot each year for the Congress Queen team to raffle off to benefit the Shirley Bowman Nutritional Program as well donating a portion of sales of the limited edition boot to the cause.

Since the beginning, six years ago, Lagrange along with the help of several others including Shorty, the congress queen team and many more have raised more than $200,000 while also raising awareness about the importance of nutrition cancer patients need.

With the money raised, the Shirley Bowman Nutritional Program has been able to hire a full-time dietitian, a full-time assistant to the dietitian and have helped more than 7,000 patients receive free nutritional counseling.

This year’s boot, “The Wings of an Angel,” and is a square toe boot made of a fabulous pink sanded leather. The boot features an intricate feather embroidered with a pink patent leather ribbon inlay. The 11″ matching top features the three ribbon pink patent leather inlay on front and back. For each pair sold, LaGrange will donate $40 to the Shirley Bowman Nutritional Program.
