Although likely none of the kids in this photo will have seen the 1985 comedy-drama starring Emilio Estevez, Anthony Hall, Judd Nelson, Molly Ringwald, and Ally Sheedy, the movie explores themes they will be quite familiar with. The bond that can form among people from different backgrounds who share a common experience. The discovery that we’re all more alike than we are different. The effect that a group of close-knit friends can have on your life. These are among the reasons why our youth show horses, after all.

“I had my 2019 Equine Photography Clinic this last weekend here in Rapid City, SD. I had 18 students from nine states and Canada here. I’ve held back some issues of the Chronicle to use as teaching tools. We go through them together page by page and then they take them home. Go Chronicle!”

“Terra is an incredibly hard working youth, who shows without a full time trainer. She has done all the work on this horse herself with occasional coaching from JD Koffel and Ashley Wood. The photo is from the AQHA L1 Championships. She was a finalist in Rookie Youth Horsemanship out of 60+ horses and semifinalist in Youth 14-18 out of 88 horses.”
