Today, at Tonto Mountain Ranch in Skull Valley, Arizona, Arizona Quarter Horse members will gather to participate in an exciting event called the Watermelon Bash Trail Challenge. The format of this outdoor competition will test the ability of a horse and rider to work as a team as they navigate through natural obstacles that might be encountered during a trail ride.
The event kicks off today with the opportunity to practice on 32 natural obstacles that will be used during the competition over the weekend. The Trail Challenges will take place on Saturday and Sunday with 16 obstacles and two different courses.
Tonight and tomorrow evening, competitors will gather ’round the fire to enjoy a Potluck Dinner as well as refreshing watermelon. Several riders plan fully immerse themselves in the experience by camping onsite.
AzQHA youth member, Blake Minotto, was kind enough to share his photos from a recent Trail Challenge. Scroll below to see the types of obstacles riders will be facing this weekend!
