But I also wanted to share with you some “Breaking News” that we are very excited about…………. We are going to be adding an “ADDITIONAL” $30,000 to the purses of the River Oaks Ranch Two Yr Old and the Three & Over Limited Halter Stakes Classes !!!!!!!!!! You all are aware of the excitement and enthusiasm the weanling and yearling futurities have grown each and every year for the past decade, gosh we paid out over $1 Million in WCHA events alone last year, but not only in WCHA but other prominent futurities across the country (BHF, APHA Platinum and Gold, East Coast, etc)….. enthusiasm to breed, purchase and show weanlings is at an all time high !!
However a point of concern within leaders of WCHA is with the weekend breed shows decreasing in size how can we extend the longevity within the show ring of these exceptional conformation horses? As an association with affiliate status representing AQHA-APHA-ApHC-PHBA-ARHA-PtHA-ABRA we have a responsibility to provide meaningful events so that these older horses have value and to extend their show careers. Three years ago WCHA implemented the Limited Halter Stakes classes for horses that “may not have been in top placings in World Show competition” but are VERY nice horses that just need a chance to prove themselves against horses of the same caliber………. We offer these classes in both the Big Money & WCHA Breeder’s Futurities and they have steadily grown each year, these classes give opportunities to these limited horses without having to show against multiple World Champions as they would in a World Championship Breed Show.
With the foresight and generosity of June Rhea / River Oaks Ranch with the same concerns we are able to give a huge boost to these classes this year with an “additional $30,000 in purse money distributed 100% into these classes” !!! Furthermore, Warren & Laurie English have donated an additional $5,000 into the Big Money Non Pro Two Yr Old and Three & Over classes !!!!!
HORSE ELIGIBILITY: All Breed Stakes Classes – Two Year Olds & Also 3 Year And Older Horses
- Horses Must Fall Into The “Limited” Category: Horses that have NEVER WON a World Title in AQHA (Level 3), APHA, ApHC Are “Limited” And Are Eligible For Competition.
Exceptions: Horses that have won SPB, Solid Color Class, Youth or AQHA Level 2 or Select World Titles and/or any horse who won a world title in APHA/ApHC/AQHA “as a weanling” can still compete as a limited horse.
- Two Year Olds must be sired by a stallion that is currently enrolled into WCHA Breeder’s Program.
- Three and Older Horses can be sired by stallions that were “EVER ENROLLED” in the WCHA Breeder’s Futurity Program. Call if you question if your horse is eligible.
- All Horses Must Also Be Nominated Into WCHA Nomination Program Prior To Entry, see special nomination rates for horses who are eligible even if NEVER nominated before. We’ve reduced the nomination fees for two year olds and the three and over horses who have never been nominated before so it’s not such a stiff penalty to participate in these classes.
Extending the show careers into useful careers as performance and ranch pleasure events is also the goals Steve and Kathy Headley have in mind with their sponsorships of our Two Yr Old Ranch Horse Stakes and our Three and Over Ranch Versatility classes and also our DAC Yearling Longe Line Class sponsored by Randy Jacobs and Dac…….. these classes have significant rewards with over $50,000 paid out last year !!!! It’s not too late to get your entry “started under saddle” and compete this year as many owners/exhibitors are doing just that this very month…… Feel the thrill when your horse competes in an evening performance being cheered on by enthusiastic fans in the stands !!!
But we’re not done yet in providing new venues for these older horses to compete……………… STAY TUNED FOR NEWS ON A NEW “WCHA EVENT” IN 2024 SPECIFICALLY FOR THESE OLDER HORSES !!!!!
