Blake Weis’s excitement was evident when the announcer relayed the news that he and The Extreme Machine were the World Champions in Junior Trail tonight at the 2017 AQHA World Show. The reason for his exuberant celebration is that tonight’s win marks his third in a row in Junior Trail.
“The first was with Snap Krackle Pop and then So Good To B Me, and both of those went back into the Senior Trail last night, so it was a cool experience for everything to come full circle,” Blake says. Last night, Blake and Snap Krackle Pop placed fifth and So Good To B Me placed sixth.
Blake and “Clyde” scored a 236 to take the win on a very tough Tim “The Trail Man” Kimura course that tripped up several of his fellow competitors. Luckily, Blake and his five-year-old stallion by Machine Made and out of Miss Trophy Chip, were able to rely on the solid partnership they’ve formed over the past two years together.
“We’ve had him for two years. Last year, we got him, and then he had to have some time off after the Redbud, so we really just got started doing Trail again in February of this year.”
Despite being a stallion, Clyde is described as a cool character, who never lets anything rattle his cage. “We haven’t longed him for four days! He’s very cool. He always seems kind of like a surfer dude!”
Looking forward to next year, Blake is excited that Clyde’s owner, Rhonda Wade, will be showing the stallion in Select Trail.
The Reserve Champion was Colton Lasusa with Bettin I’m Best. Third was Micah Hansen with Loping In The Knight. Fourth was Robin Frid with No Question I’m Lazy. Fifth was Brad Ost with Red Label.
