Kicking off festivities this evening at the 2013 APHA World Show was the Green Hunter Under Saddle with two splits of 20 entries. The World Champion was Beth Case aboard Sugarloaf Sweet Taboo for Kathryn Schexnayder of Louisiana. The Reserve Champion was Laura Spell with Time To Be Classy. Rounding out the top three was Karen Qualls with Big Ones Only.
Last week, Schexnayder showed “Carter” to a fourth place finish in the Masters Amateur Junior Hunter Under Saddle. The World Show marks Carter’s debut in the show pen.
“This is his first horse show,” Schexnayder says. “I showed him and then Brad [Ost] showed this morning and now Beth. He’s had a very busy day!”
Schexnayder purchased Carter as a young colt, sight unseen, from Jessica Gardner of Sugarloaf Mountain Ranch in Oklahoma.
“She told me she had a loud colored colt, and I said, ‘I want him, don’t sell him.’ She’s got good horses. I’m going to breed his mom back to All Time Fancy as soon as I go pick her up. Maybe we’ll have another next year!”
“Chad and Shane Christensen started him for me. Then, last month, we brought him over to Highpoint so Beth could start riding him. Then, Brad Ost and I ride him as well. We are going to start showmanship and maybe horsemanship next year. I just want to take it slow with him. He’s a nice horse.”
