Beth Case and Look N Hott Win Senior Hunter Under Saddle at 2013 AQHA World Show

Although it’s a frigid 28 degrees here in Oklahoma City with a chance of hail and an ice storm on the horizon, Beth Case was Look N Hott this afternoon during her win in Senior Hunter Under Saddle. Look N Hott, aka “JJ,” is a bay gelding by Hot N Blazing and out of Regal Marie. He is owned by Laurel Champlin of Nevada, who claimed a Reserve World Championship title with the horse in Amateur Hunter Under Saddle last week.

“We’ve had him for three years,” Case says. “We got him in July of 2011. He is six years old.”

Although they didn’t make the trip to the Congress this year, Case and JJ do have past wins as a team. In 2011, they won the Junior Hunter Under Saddle here at the World Show. Overall, Case has six Hunter Under Saddle World Championships with three in the Senior age division. A few of her other mounts have included Must Be A Detail and Don’t Ya Just Love It.

As the 2013 World Show quickly comes to a close, the Highpoint Performance Horses team has a few horses left to compete. It’s Been Awhile will show in Junior Pleasure Driving with Charlie Cole. Cole will also show Hope By Blaze in Junior Western Riding. Brad Ost will ride UF A Certain Star and Jason Martin will show Dunit On The Range in Junior Western Riding.

 

This win in Senior Hunter Under Saddle concludes JJ’s 2013 World Show experience, however Case indicates that he may be added to Highpoint’s list of western riders in the not-so-distant future.

“He also does equitation,” she says. “I’ve shown him already in green western riding and won some circuits on him. We’re going to probably start really showing him next year.”

Case appreciated the judges’ decision to call for a hand gallop in the Hunter Under Saddle finals today. Although she typically sticks to the rail events nowadays, there was a time when she could be seen flying high in the saddle.

“I did over fences when I started out,” she says. “I rode with a local trainer, and we did everything. I even jumped. I could make anything get over a fence. I was a lot braver then too! It’s fun to do something different. I like to go fast sometimes, just not too fast!”

As for JJ, he confirmed with a well-timed sigh that his hooves will remain firmly planted on the ground.
