The Youth Halter pen was abuzz with excitement this morning, because we had a real life superhero in our midst! Batman made an appearance in the Youth Aged Mares class, where he received serval placings under a number of impressed judges.
“Batman” in the flesh is actually 5-year-old Wyatt Herrnstein, who is competing at his first Quarter Horse Congress. Wyatt’s trusty sidekick for this morning’s class was a 16-year-old bay mare named Annie Lost Her Socks, aka “Sadie.”
Despite being in a pen with 16 other top horse and handler teams, Wyatt wasn’t nervous at all. “I’m excited!” Of course, superheroes are never afraid, but he likely received a little confidence boost from the fact that Mom, Dad, and sister, 7-year-old Skylar, were in the stands. Earlier in the show, Skylar showed in Walk Trot classes with what is definitely “her horse.”
Given the fact that Halloween is coming up soon, we wondered if Batman would be making an appearance on the trick or treat circuit. Sadly, that will not be the case. This year, Wyatt is going as the shape shifting robot from Transformers, Optimus Prime.
We wondered if Wyatt has been enjoying his first Congress experience thus far, and he let us know that he “loves to show horses.” What does he like about showing in particular? “Everything!” Wyatt enjoys brushing his horse and feeding her treats, but his favorite part is getting ribbons and having his photo taken!
The Youth Aged Mares class is still underway, but stay tuned to see how Batman ends up in the overall placings!
