It was another high scoring day in the Trail pen at the 2014 All American Quarter Horse Congress. The top five competitors in the Youth 15-18 Trail were separated by a margin of six points, and the top three all scored over 230.
Claiming the Congress Champion title was Bailey Anderson with Zippos Kat Man Do with a score of 232.5 The Reserve Champion was Jane Sutcliff with PF Put It N Park with a score of 231. Third place was Livvie Van Lanen with All But Sudden scoring a 230.5. The fourth place team was Avery Ellis with Consider Duplicated with a 229.5. Rounding out the top five was Sierra Czerwinski with Lethals Hot Weapon with a score of 226.5.
Earlier in the show, Anderson and “Teddy” received a sixth place finish in Novice Youth Trail and a fourth place finish in Youth Showmanship 15-18. Last year, the team won Novice Youth Trail, Youth Showmanship, and the NYATT Showmanship. Today’s win in the regular division of the Youth Trail was a bit of a surprise.
“Trail is kind of new for me,” she says. “I wasn’t really expecting this. We just started doing Trail before the Congress last year.”
“I was nervous that he might be a little fresh today, but he was very tired for me. He really just sat on my leg, lifted over the poles, and went slow. He listened to me really well, so I was very happy.”
Anderson’s favorite obstacles in today’s pattern were the lope-overs and turn in the box, because she feels Teddy has an opportunity to score plus points with his accuracy and speed. Assisting with preparation for today’s class were Anderson’s trainers, Stephen Stephens and Terry Cross.
Later today, this pair will be competing in Youth 15-18 Horsemanship, and we wish them the best of luck!
