Katie Jo Jones and Im ExtremelySchmancy have definitely hit their stride, winning a class of 57 entries in the L3 Amateur Horsemanship on Wednesday evening at the 2024 AQHA World Championship Show!
Just last month, the team also topped a field of 99 teams to win a Congress Championship in Amateur Horsemanship!
After her win Wednesday evening, Katie Jo says that she and “Sassy,” the 2018 brown mare by Extremely Hot Chips and out of Im Fancy Schmancy (by Batt Man), Bred by Jeri Kay Lockwood, have really just become like one.
“We’ve really worked hard to be in sync, and it’s really just come together. We’ve showed a lot this year, and each time tried to improve what we were doing,” she explains.
Even though she lives in North Carolina and Sassy lives in Texas with trainers Robin and Jenny Frid, she tries to spend as much time with her as she can. “She’s super sweet, so she’s enjoyable to spend time with, and we give her lots of treats.”
As far as her patterns are concerned, Katie Jo says Robin always has the right words when she enters the arena. “Robin, for sure, he always has the right words to say. I think he’s always telling me just to, you know, ride for her. It’s really easy for her, so he tells me to just keep my head on straight and just let her do her job and just always keep my head clear and that’s always worked.”
