In the Celeste Arena, Deanna Willis and Top Gunn were Congress Champions in the 3 Year Old Non Pro Western Pleasure Futurity, and Pleasure fans no doubt recognized the horse’s name from events like Arizona Sun Circuit and March To The Arch.
Deanna explains that Rusty Green, her dad, bought the Machine Made gelding as a yearling, and he’s three now. “We’ve shown him together and it has been really fun as a family thing. We kept him back from Tulsa to save him for here, and he’s been a really good boy here so it’s been really fun.”
In today’s class, she says “Cruise” was exactly where she wanted him to be. “He let me put him wherever, and he put his ears up and showed like a good boy; I couldn’t ask him to be any better today.”
In her earlier Bronze win with Top Gunn the week before in the 3 Year Old Non Pro Western Futurity viewers on social media admired her beautiful and tasteful olive green day shirt with the American flag and the Top Gun patch on the sleeve. The shirt was inspired by Deanna’s request and it came to life due to designer Rachel Sackrider. “She makes a lot of my show clothes, and I told her I wanted to have something fun for Top Gunn, and she made something awesome!”

Later in a class of 42 L1 Amateur Select Western Pleasure teams, Yvonne Robeson was crowned Congress Champion with her horse, Lil Bang Bang, aka Cookie. It was a big achievement, considering Yvonne lost one of her spurs in the split! Yvonne says Cookie was very good anyway!
She also was out for a whole year for back surgery after she bought Cookie in 2021 – in fact, when she showed her in 2022 at Congress, she says, “It was my first show and my first ride on her since I had bought her, and I ended up fourth out of 60. She’s a phenomenal mare.”
Yvonne is feeling great now and has been having fun with her horse in Florida with Rusty Green (she lives in California), showing in Florida, Georgia, and Arizona. “When I first started showing, I did the all around, and I’m just doing the Pleasure now, which I love,” she explains. “I’m really enjoying it.”
