APHA exhibitors enjoyed an 8-judge/3-day event over Memorial Day weekend in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Judges included Michael Swain, Danny Williams, Casey Orr, Leigh Ann Skurupey, Andrea Koehn, Carrie Kessler, Cindy Pence-Girardier, and Keith McDonough.
17 states were represented at the show: Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Minnesota, Montana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Nebraska, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas, Washington, and Wisconsin. The exhibitor who traveled the farthest came 1,830 miles to compete! On Sunday and Monday, 153 horses and 165 exhibitors entered the show pen.
Check out some of the largest class sizes recorded over the weekend:
A very special event happened at the horse show for one APHA amateur competitor. Jamie Ross Swanson, and her horse, She’s Alotta Splash surpassed the 10,000 APHA point mark! In honor of the momentous occasion, Jamie held a special party for her beloved 2003 mare, “Daisy,” during the horse show.
“99.9% of those points were put on by an amateur competitor (myself and my sister). Daisy is in Brad Kearn’s training program, and I’ve owned and started showing her since she was two years old. She is a one-in-a- million” horse because she has so much try and willingness to do her job. She just is amazing and I’m very privileged to have her.”
Congratulations to Jamie and Daisy on this exciting accomplishment!
Special thanks to Beth Foster-Hattan for some great photos from around the rings at the show. If you’d like to see your horse show photos featured on EquineChronicle.com, email B.Bevis@EquineChronicle.com.
