Several World Champions have been crowned this evening at the 2020 AQHA World Championship Show. Katie Fox has had an exceptional day winning numerous titles with different horses. She led Magnificense to a Reserve Championship in Amateur 2-Year-Old Mares. Then, she led Solair to win Amateur 3-Year-Old Geldings. She was Reserve with Romeiro in Amateur Aged Stallions. Then, she won Amateur 3-Year-Old Stallions with CR Peacemaker.
This is the first time Katie has shown Solair, and he was her favorite of the day. “He was really good. He showed great and set up and used his ears. He and CR Peacemaker are half brothers, by Solaris, and Peacemaker is actually a grandson of our good mare, A Classic Edition, that I won my first World title with. He’s big, strong, and pretty, just like her.”
This was Romeiro’s first year in the aged division, as he is now four years old. Katie won with him two years ago and was third last year. Still, “Soli” gets the award in Katie’s book for the best performance of the day. “He shows so good and stands out so much. Everybody loves him. You can’t help but love him. He has a lot of presence. He likes to be in the show pen, and you’re very drawn to look at him. He’s big and pretty. He’s 17 hands.”
In addition, Katie’s dad, Dan, competed in the select division with the family’s Halter horses and was third with Magnificense and won with Solair, Romeiro, and CR Peacemaker.
Reserve in Amateur 3-Year-Old Stallions was Jason Somnitz with I Got Cool Luck. Third was Kelly Adkins with Meggasecret. Reserve in Amateur 3-Year-Old Geldings was Josh Weakly with Erratic. Third was March Ferguson with Watchmaker. Fourth was Ginger Baxter with Illicit Intention. Fifth was Shirley McCary with Cool In My Levis.
Tammi Smith won her first World Championship title in Amateur Aged Stallions with her 4-year-old stallion, Whoisit. This stud was a bit vocal in the pen today chatting with a lovely lady that he was certain was anxiously awaiting his arrival. But it didn’t bother Tammi one bit, as she describes him as a sweet soul.
“I think he kind of thought there was a girlfriend out there!” she says. “He’s always so sweet, so even when he did that, I wasn’t concerned for my safety. I just thought I might lose his set up.”
Whoisit is a 4-year-old stallion that was a surprise gift from Tammi’s husband when he was just a foal. Ever since he started showing as a youngster, he’s had presence, but he keeps getting bigger and stronger. “I love that it’s six at night and he’s great-legged, and he looks like he just woke up. His top is always phenomenal. He’s beautiful hocked and has tons of carry down. Also, I love his mind.”
This stallion has one baby, ItsMe, that Tammi showed in the WCHA Junior Colt class and placed fifth with. Next year, Whoisit will stand to the public. “He’s bred to some amazing mares at the farm. He’s N/N, five panel and the reason he works so well for our program, is because we plan to cross PF Premo daughters back to him.”
Julie Smith won Amateur Aged Geldings with Maui Jym. Reserve was Christine West with Mister Over Easy. Third was Kristin Cole with DMM Secret Sinsation.
