APHC Copper Country POR – Sunday, December 31st, 2023

On Sunday, December 31st, the first POR was wrapping up (Trail classes will complete the POR on January 1st) at the APHC Copper Country show at WestWorld. In the Equidome, the morning was kicked off with Western Pleasure, and for the second year in a row, Karen Qualls won the NSBA All Age Open Western Pleasure with Faith Is Certain for owner Shelley Tuma.

In the Youth 13 & Under Western Pleasure, even though Jocelyn Krieg is still getting to know her horse, Only One I Want, they won the circuit for their class! Jocelyn says “Waylon,” who she shows under the guidance of Larson Performance Horses,
Jocelyn says that she’s only had “Waylon” for about six months, so she has mostly been doing a lot of learning on a new horse in the all around, including Western Pleasure, Trail, Horsemanship, and more. “He’s bigger than my old horse, so I’ve just been trying to learn and figure out how to ride him,” she explains. “I really like that he’s super friendly and he does what I ask.”
Her barn, Larson Performance Horses, has helped with her success, she says. “Kip (Larson) really pushes me to do the best and show the best, and so does Hayden (Jung), and they do a great job prepping me and my horse for these big shows.” Jocelyn says she’s also appreciative of her support system – her barn members, and her mom, who brings her to the shows, and her brother and dad, who are watching from back home.

In the last Western Pleasure class of the day, Kelsey Marriott and Mr Big Sensation won the Walk Jog Western Pleasure, a class of 22, and for both of them, it has been a big comeback.
