For the past several years, the APHA Zone 2 Show and Utah Paint Horse Club Paint-O-Rama has been at the top of the list as one of the most attended events of the year on the Paint Horse circuit. Last year, the show ranked 2nd on the list of APHA’s Top Shows with 1,099 entries. This year, the 2017 show is shaping up to be bigger and better than ever with more classes, more added money, and more awards!
The 2017 event will be held May 25-29 at the Salt Lake County Equestrian Park in South Jordan, Utah. Judges for the Zone 2 Show will be Trisha Shorten, Jodie Moore, Delena Doyle, Mark Baus, Jim Edwards, and Cynthia Weight-Carter. Judges for the Paint-O-Rama will be Rick Christy, Mark Kuhlwein, Debra Jarvis, and Laura Gilmer.
Show Manager Terri Wirthlin is excited to announce the addition of dual-approved APHA/NSBA classes to the schedule for youth, amateur, and open divisions as well as NSBA All-Breed futurities with $5,000 added money and just a $100 entry fee. Classes will include: Non Pro Western Pleasure, Open Western Pleasure, Non Pro Hunter Under Saddle, Open Hunter Under Saddle, and Open Western Riding. Another new addition this year are Ranch classes: Ranch Trail, Ranch Pleasure, and Ranch Reining.
High Point awards will be presented through fifth place to the following divisions: Open Junior and Senior Horse, Amateur and Masters Amateur, Novice Amateur, Novice Youth, Youth 13 and Under, 14-18, Walk Trot 5-10, Amateur Walk Trot, Solid Paint Bred Youth, Amateur, and Open. Circuit class awards will be presented in every class as well as awards for 2nd-6th place. The Ultimate Stallion, Mare, and Gelding Awards will be presented to the circuit’s High Point Halter Horses.
– The Ultimate Yearling Award will be presented in Open, Amateur, and Solid Paint Bred for High Point and Reserve. This award will be presented to the yearling earning the most points in Halter, Longe Line, and In Hand Trail.
– Sheila Plimpton Memorial Award– High Point and Reserve Green Horse (Green Western Pleasure, Western Riding, Trail, Hunter Under Saddle, Preliminary Working Hunter)
– Richard Diamond Memorial Award– High Point Walk-Trot 5-10 (Walk Trot 5-10 Showmanship, Western Pleasure, Horsemanship, Trail, Hunter Under Saddle, Equitation)
– Sharon Bates Memorial Award– (Open Speed Events)
– Duane Pettibone Memorial– High Point Ranch Horses- (Novice Youth, Novice Amateur, Youth, Amateur, Open and Solid Paint Bred Ranch Trail, Ranch Riding, Ranch Pleasure, Ranch Reining)
– Paul and Jean Mullan Award (Leadline 3-8 years old, Buckles 1st-5th)
