APHA recently announced its year-end Open division award-winning horses for the 2013 show season. Two outstanding horses finished at the top of their respective divisions.
Theultimate Advantage, a 5-year-old chestnut overo gelding owned by Lauren Bork of Westminster, Maryland captured the 2013 No. 1 Open Horse title with 207 Open points earned in a variety of events.
The Open Top 20 Award is given to the single horse that earns the most points in Open halter and performance classes compiled from a maximum of 20 shows.
On their way to the title, the 21-year-old equestrienne and her gelding, nicknamed “Guinness,” earned a number of top titles in the past year, including two world champion buckles, a Superior All-Around Champion title and a Performance Versatility award.
Theultimate Advantage is by The Ultimate Fancy and out of Impacts Amazing Grace. Sharon Wiles of Westminster, Maryland, bred the gelding.
On Solid Ground, a 5-year-old red dun solid Paint-bred mare owned and shown by Mikey Trueba of Williams, Arizona, finished at the top of the Open Solid Paint-Bred category. The pair finished the year with 81 qualifying points.
Living up to her name in every sense of the meaning, the red dun mare On Solid Ground captured the 2013 No. 1 Open Solid Paint-Bred title. Impressively, it was “Cady’s” first year contending in the Open division with owner Mikey Trueba of Williams, Arizona.
Cady was bred and raised by the Amateur exhibitor and her mother, Barbara. The mare has won six APHA world championships and three reserve world championships for Mikey—including a 2012 reserve title in Open Solid Paint-Bred Trail—in only three years.
On Solid Ground is by The Whole Shabang and out of Artistic Brilliance. Barbara Trueba of Williams, Arizona, bred the gelding.
