PHJ press release by: Rachel Florman
While some might spend the winter season dreaming of sugarplums and presents, Paint Horse exhibitors might have something else on the minds: the 2016 show season!
Before you hit your winter circuits and kick off the new year, be sure you’ve completed your Amateur and Novice card applications. New for 2016, a single online form is your one-stop shop for all your application and eligibility needs—you can apply for your Amateur, Novice Amateur, and Walk-Trot cards via this easy form.
Apply for an Amateur, Novice Amateur or Walk-Trot card
Applications are processed on a first-come-first-served basis unless otherwise requested—email amateur@apha.com if you plan to compete at a stock show or holiday circuit. Standard processing begins the week of December 21.
Rule changes approved at the 2015 APHA Convention go into effect January 1, 2016, and a change to AM-205 might affect your Novice Amateur eligibility; be sure to review these new rules ahead of applying for your 2016 cards.
AM-205 now allows Novice Amateurs to gain more experience in Amateur-level classes before pointing out of Novice eligibility. Become informed and use this change to push yourself at your next APHA show!
AM-205 A.2.a., Novice Amateur Eligibility
a. To be eligible for Novice Amateur status in a category the applicant cannot have earned forty (40) revalued performance points (Open, Amateur and/or Youth combined) in that category in any recognized equine association including, but not limited to APHA, AQHA, ApHC, IBHA, PHBA, PtHA, AHA, AMHA, ABRA and POA.
Exception: Zone 12, 13, 14—the applicant cannot have earned 20 revalued performance points.
Return to Novice
If you’re returning to the show pen after a long hiatus, your previous accomplishments may no longer affect your Novice-level eligibility. Complete the following Novice Amateur Status Reinstatement form to disclose your competition history; complete the form and $25 fee at the same time as your Amateur application for fastest processing.
