The APHA Convention is officially underway!
Despite colder than expected temperatures in Texas, early arrivals enjoyed farm tours and a golf tournament to support the American Paint Horse Foundation Youth Scholarships. Highlights of the tour included Gerald the giraffe and Rosie the camel of High Point Performance Horses. The golf tournament awarded a weather cry baby award to one golfer who braved the elements.
Business began with the Executive Director’s Report and General Membership on Friday morning. Billy Smith provided positive membership numbers, a balanced operating budget, and an overall positive financial report for the association. He also announced that the 2016 APHA Convention will be in Virginia, exact location details TBD.
The Standing Committees got down to work in their first of two sessions Friday afternoon.
The first day wrapped up with a Welcome Reception sponsored by the Virginia Paint Horse Club, the Virginia Horse Industry Board, and the Virginia Tourism Corporation.
Convention attendees from warmer states got a real treat with a good snowfall throughout the day a few had the opportunity to make their first snow angels!
