PHJ press release by: Jessica Hein
If you love the challenge and skill that comes with showing in the working cow horse event with your Paint Horse, get ready for some big news: APHA recently approved 12 National Reined Cow Horse Association events to count toward qualification requirements for the 2015 APHA World Championship Show. The APHA World Show— home to all Open and Amateur events, along with tons of great added-money classes—takes place November 4-14 in Fort Worth, Texas.
Qualifying for the APHA World Show is easy—it’s based on participation only, and reined cow horses only have to compete in two approved events with no minimum judges. If your horse is multi-faceted and competes in other events, too, qualification might require participation in at least four approved events, shown to a minimum of eight total judges. A few qualification exemptions apply—details on the 2015 APHA World Show qualification requirements can be found at oawcs.apha.com/qualifiers.
The qualification period for the 2015 Open/Amateur World Show is August 1, 2014, through July 31, 2015; no qualification is required for the AjPHA Youth World Championship Show, which takes place June 26-July 4.
Any APHA-approved show counts toward qualification for the APHA Open/Amateur World Show, but we’ve made it extra-easy for reined cow horses by including the following events thanks to APHA’s partnership with NRCHA. Nine are new 2015 events, and three are events from 2014. NRCHA-approved competitions for APHA World Show qualification include:
Unless otherwise noted on the APHA Show Calendar, these shows only count toward APHA World Show qualification, not APHA points. Each show counts for at least one show toward qualification requirements. Don’t forget, a number of NRHA-approved shows have also been approved for APHA World Show qualification—read more about them here.
