Ann Woodruff and Dunit On The Range Win L1 Amt Select Western Riding

Earlier this week, we caught up with Ann Woodruff, who snagged an overall First Place in Level 1 Amateur Select Western Riding with Dunit On The Range on Tuesday, March 7th, at the 2023 Scottsdale Arizona Sun Circuit.

She just started riding “Roscoe” in the class last year under the guidance of Clint Ainsworth, and found it is a very addictive class, especially with such a wonderful horse like Dunit On The Range, a multiple World Champion in the event.

“He is such a great teacher and so patient, and someone starting off in Western Riding couldn’t wish for a better horse than him – he is phenomenal,” Ann explains.

The 2008 gelding is one of the all-time greats in the discipline, and while Ann had goals to do other events as well, Roscoe came into her life.  “So I was quickly  thrown into the Western Riding world, and my first show with him, I actually was second in Western Riding at the NSBA World,” she says.  “I’m still learning, and again, with him being patient, it’s wonderful.”

She says having a coach like Clint makes her blessed in two aspects – both with horse and trainer.  It had also been some time since she had actually been able to ride, so the overall class win at Sun Circuit was indeed a pleasant surprise.

As far as Roscoe is concerned, she says he’s very laid back and he has a big roan spot in middle of his head. “I call that his easy button,” she laughs.  “He’s just a great little old fella for a little old lady like me.”
