Anastasiya Potts and What R U Lookin At make the perfect pair, because they both have a unique past. Potts was adopted from the Ukraine in 2008. She’s now fifteen and living her dream of being able to show horses. Her seven-year-old gelding, “Frosty,” received his nickname thanks to an extremely cold day when he was just a newborn foal.
“When he was born, his mom foaled two weeks early,” she says. “It was cold outside, and he got frostbite on his ears. I really like his little ears. I couldn’t imagine him without them!”
Frosty helped Potts achieve her first World Championship title this afternoon in Novice Youth 14-18 Equitation. She describes the experience as “extremely exciting!” The pair will show in Showmanship and two of their favorite events, Trail and Horsemanship, later this week.
“I started riding around four or five years ago,” she says. “I did little jumps at first, and three years ago I started showing in Paints.”
Before entering the pen today, Potts’s horse trainers, Brad Jewett and Duke Williams, shared some helpful advice.
“I always have to keep my heels down, look up, and also have fun! It was a fun pattern. There were some difficult maneuvers, like a canter to a walk. That was difficult, but Frosty did really good. He nailed it today.”
