This afternoon at the 2013 AQHA World Show, twelve tough horse and driver teams gathered for the Amateur Pleasure Driving Finals. When the dust had settled, it was Terri Brewer Booth and Luke Here Honey who claimed the World Championship title.

“Honey” is a 13-year-old gelding by Luke At Me and out of Student of Art. According to Booth, Honey has several prior Pleasure Driving World titles, however today’s finish marks her first personal World Championship.

“Honey has already won the senior [division] one or two times,” she says. “But I haven’t. This is my first.”

Booth and Honey have been a team for the past seven years now. She currently relies on the guidance of Chuck Briggs for training, maintaining, and campaigning her beloved gelding.

With twelve finalists in the Jim Norick Arena this afternoon, the finals was a bit crowded. However, Booth has no fear when it comes to this particular event.

“I wasn’t really [worried],” she says. “He’s very calm. He loves to drive, so he just kind of takes care of you in there. If you’d ever been in a cart behind him, you’d love it, because he makes it so easy.”

“This year, we got to practice a little more. Thank goodness. It’s been a fun week though. There hasn’t been too much pressure.”

Typically, Booth also shows Honey in hunter under saddle, but this year she decided to focus all of her energy on competing in pleasure driving. This first World Championship win is bittersweet for Booth because she experienced a personal tragedy just a few months ago when her husband, Bobby Booth, passed away on August 19, 2013.

“My husband passed away three months ago, and he would’ve loved to have seen this…”

We are sure that Bobby is looking down with pride. Congratulations to the Booth/Briggs duo following this well-deserved win.
