For the second year in a row, Alfred Hewitt and Naturally Brilliant were named the champions in the National Quarter Horse League Huntfield Open Hunter Derby. Held annually during the Stars N Stripes and Big A horse shows in Conyers, GA, the Derby brings the feeling of an international, show jumping event under the stars with a Quarter Horse twist.
In the High Derby, there were 22 competitors.
Coming in Reserve behind Alfred and “Gotcha” was Linda Crothers with Go Big Sky. The highest placing non-pro rider, Abigail Hardy, took third place overall with her horse, My Secret Past. The second highest placing non-pro rider also happened to come in fourth overall: Hannah Bedwell with DoYou Have TheMagic. Placing fifth was another non-pro rider, Erin Gordon, aboard An Indian Breeze.
Alfred found himself in the ribbons once again with Decorated By Mito in sixth place. Coming in seventh was non-pro rider, Alexis Hart, with Delivered By Hand. Placing eighth was non-pro rider, Grace Baum, with Red Hot Details. Ninth was non-pro, Jesilyn McCarroll, with Do U Wanna Dance.
Tenth place was Jessica Johnson with ATM. Eleventh was David Miller with Whatmadeusaythat. Twelfth place was non-pro rider, Natalie Vargo, with Hello Darlin.
In the Low Derby, Linda Crothers bested 32 other entries to win the class with Kiss My Big Asset. Placing second overall and the highest placing non-pro was 14-year-old Lily Grace Beatty with Artful Seduction. Third place was non-pro rider, Raymond Coutley, with Navier Stokes. Fourth place was non-pro Taylor Myers with Whatmadeusaythat.
Fifth place was non-pro Terrie Brewer Booth with Larks Big Leaguer. Sixth place was Jessica Johnson with Im Seen Double. Seventh place was David Miller with Enjoyable. Eighth place was Kaley Strausbaugh with Deep Blue Skys. Ninth place was non-pro rider Karissa Beavais with Sonnys Trix.
Tenth place was non-pro rider Lydia Darnell with Wranglers R Hot. Eleventh place was Chuck Briggs with Dancin N The Dirt. Twelfth place was non-pro Susan Cannan with Social Butterfly.
