Good things come to those who wait is the motto for Tonya Brown Quarter Horses this year at the 2019 AQHA Youth World Show. Remember Kyla Jackson with Cadillac In Black, who missed coming to her first Youth World last year, because of the trailer accident on the way to the show? Yesterday, she won L2 Horsemanship. Well, also in that same trailer was Corporate Credit, who belongs to Alexa Brown. Today, at her first Youth World appearance, they won 13 and Under Trail.

22-year-old “Dusty” and 13-year-old Alexa have been a team for three years now. “When he’s not in the show pen, he’s absolutely a puppy. He loves everybody. He thinks he’s a lap dog and will do anything to get pets and treats. He’s super spoiled, but I love him.”

Alexa thinks Dusty’s best quality as a show horse is his attention to detail when taking care of whatever rider is on his back. “His former trainers, Charlie Cole and Jason Martin, have been really helpful with all of the events he does. He knows his job.”

In today’s finals, Alexa’s trainer and mother, Tonya, gave her some helpful advice. “She said to ride slow and do my best. However I went, even if I had a mistake, I would’ve been happy with it, because I’m at my first Youth World.”

“My favorite parts were the walk-overs and left lead lope. With a lot of the lope-overs, you have to be soft and push him up to it, so he doesn’t take a big step. Also, I have to make sure he stays straight and knows where he’s going, because sometimes he thinks he knows.”

Coming up next, Alexa and Dusty will compete in 13 and Under Showmanship and her favorite class, L2 Western Riding. “I haven’t done it for a long time, but I like knowing I’m out in the open and I can control my horse. I like knowing we have a connection.”

The Reserve Champion was Lenora Roberts with Don’t I Look Good. Third was Addisyn Albers with Loping Ona Goodbar. Fourth was Cheyenne Augsburger with Huntin For Candy. Fifth was Cheynne Augsburger with Unanimously Too Cool.
