It’s finally Western Pleasure day here at the 2015 AjPHA Youth World Championship Show, and the first two Novice Youth Champions have been crowned.
Trey Dutton and Chase Peffly represented the gentlemen well by claiming the top two spots in Novice Youth Western Pleasure 13 and Under. Dutton rode Beyond Sensational to win the class, and Chase Peffly rode Justified Expense to win the Reserve World Champion title. Rounding out the top three was Samantha Stubblefield with Only Roses Will Do.
This is 12-year-old Trey’s first year showing horses, his first time competing at the AjPHA Youth World, and his first World Champion title. He currently competes under the guidance of Simons Show Horses alongside his big sister Ali Eidson. “Ali said to give it my hardest,” Trey says.
Trey’s partner for the class today was Beyond Sensational, aka “Beyonce.” His favorite part of the class was when the judges called for the jog, because Beyonce has a “smooth” gait. Trey’s trainers, Sara Simons and RJ King, gave him some very important advice before he entered the pen.
“Sara told me to keep her slow when I reverse and to keep my feet back,” Trey says. “RJ taught me how to take my hat off and look at the judges [when I get a ribbon]. It’s to show respect.”

Another member of the Simons Show Horses team won the second Western Pleasure title of the morning. Lucie Lundquist was named the World Champion in Novice Youth 14-18 Western Pleasure. The Reserve World Champion was Callie Foster with Noterized. Rounding out the top three was Veronica John with Pour Me A Cuervo.
This win marks the first World Champion title for Lucie Lundquist, who has been showing her horse, Optimized, aka “Oprah,” for exactly one year.
“I can’t even believe it,” Lucie says. “I was happy and then I started crying… so many emotions. Oprah was awesome. She was perfect.”
Earlier in the show, this team placed 4th in 14-18 Horsemanship, 7th in 14-18 Equitation, and competed for the second time in Trail. Later on today, they will return to compete in 14-18 Western Pleasure.
“Obviously, [this win] makes me want to do even better, but anything after this is just a bonus,” she says. “My horse had a good ride and I’m happy with her.”
“My favorite part was her jog. She’s so smooth and stays right there with me. She listens the whole time and is so honest.”
