While Halter classes were taking place in the Watt Arena, here in Fort Worth, English classes took the main stage in the John Justin Arena. In Novice Amateur Hunter Under Saddle, Megan Rowley rode A Chance Romance to an emotional win. The Reserve Champion was Nicole Dalton with The Wow Factor. Third was Jill Youngblood with All That And More. Fourth was Erin Gerhardt-Valois with Only By Moonlight. Fifth was Tammy Reed with All Systems Go.
In Masters Amateur Senior Hunter Under Saddle, Coleen Bull rode Timeless Assets to win their second World Championship title of the show and 22nd career win. The Reserve Champion was Paris Hughes with Fancy Favors. Third was Meredith Landy with Certified Stride. Fourth was Anne Rosen with All About The Swing. Fifth was Jill Youngblood with All That And More.
In Classic Amateur Senior Hunter Under Saddle, Alison Foster achieved a big milestone winning her first World Championship title with A lot To Offer. Alison has been named Reserve Champion numerous times (twice the past two years in this class), but this is her first time “winning the class outright!” as she likes to say. “It feels like it’s been a long time coming, and it’s an exciting moment to celebrate.”
Alison and her 7-year-old gelding, “JJ,” have been a team for the past three years and currently compete under the guidance of Sandi Morgan. Just yesterday, they placed fifth in Classic Amateur Hunt Seat Equitation. Up next, they will compete in Showmanship, Horsemanship, and Trail.
“JJ is the most easygoing, do-whatever-to-please, lazy, laid-back horse you will ever meet. When he’s out in the show pen, there’s never any difference than any other moment in his life. I longed him twice yesterday, and he was highly offended. He thought that was a lot of extra work!”
“He’s as honest as a horse could possibly be. He’s good-legged and consistent. He never moves his frame and never changes his speed. He will go as slow and long as you want him to. It’s what he does. This is his class.”
It’s a fitting end to a fabulous career for this team, because, following the APHA World Show, Alison plans to take a break from showing horses to purse her career as a writer and to travel more (not to horse shows). “I love showing, but it’s such an all-consuming hobby that I’m going to step away for a couple of years and work on my career.”
Alison’s mother, Kelli Foster, will take up the reins of JJ next year during her daughter’s brief absence from the show pen. Also, look for Kelli in Masters Amateur Western Pleasure and Hunter Under Saddle this year with a new horse, Ima Mega Sensation. Meanwhile, her trusty standby, Fleets Serenity, is enjoying a blissful semi-retirement in a pasture back home in Utah.
The Reserve Champion in this class was Christopher Strong with All That Charisma. Third was Christine Weiser with Nighttime Sensation. Fourth was Andrea Nelson with Mr. Verifiable. Fifth was Kyleen John with Krymsunized.
Winning the Amateur SPB Hunter Under Saddle was Nicole Dalton with Fancy N My Stilettos. The Reserve Champion was Lynn Harrison with Super Chip My Ride. Third was Caitlin Gordon with Sensational Jack Bar. Fourth was Rebecca Osborne with Irresistable Appeal. Fifth was Laura Rogers with Al Take You There.
