There were 12 races on Saturday in Houston, and I quickly picked my favorite horse. His name was Jessies First Down, a bay 5-year-old. He wasn’t a large horse, but something in his eyes told me he was special. He wasn’t favored to win, but he was in the biggest horse race of the whole day. It had a $50,000 purse.
The owner, Mr. Ted G. Abrams, was kind enough to let me spend some time with his horse. Ted Abrams lives in Houston, Texas, where he is the President of Abrams Technical Services, Inc., a contract employment services company that specializes in providing engineering and construction personnel for contract technical positions in the energy industry. Mr. Abrams is a lifetime member of the American Quarter Horse Association and serves as an AQHA Race Committee Member. He was the nicest owner there (if you ask me).
While we didn’t know how Jessie’s First Down would end up, it was a thrill like no other just being there with him.
UPDATE: Against the odds, Jessie’s First Down won the big race! Jockey, Rodrigo Vallejo was thanking God for his good luck. It was a thrill for everyone.
Trails, Tatum Richey
