While many AQHA competitors were enjoying Memorial Day weekend at the Gateway Classic in St. Louis, Missouri, APHA competitors headed in different directions to attend three major Memorial Day events in Waco, Texas; Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and Salt Lake City, Utah.
Last year, the Western Regional Zone 2 Show was named the largest APHA show in the country with 1,143 entries for the six-judge show and 1,000+ entries for an additional four-judge show. This past week, both the Zone 2 and Utah Paint Horse Club teams worked hard to defend the #1 title they’ve earned six times over the past eight years.
Will they earn the top spot for 2015? Only time will tell, but they have a great shot, having concluded yesterday with big class sizes and enthusiastic participation. The Zone show racked up 1,167 entries, and the Utah P-O-R concluded with 1,011. That makes the grand total for the 2015 show 2,179. Take a look at some of the largest class sizes of the show.
The ten judges who officiated the event included April Devitt, Casey Devitt, Holly Hover, Chris Arnold, Don Beard, Chris Strine, Scott Merritt, Jennifer Thompson, Ruth Ellen, and Joe Carter.
