The final day of the 2014 AQHA World Championship Show has begun, and the first two World Champions of the morning have been crowned in Weanling Colts and Yearling Colts classes. First up, Luke Castle led ZS Celebrite GQ to a win in Weanling Colts for owner Brian Lane of Canton, GA. The sorrel colt is by Sirprizerized and out of GQ Jezebel. He was bred by Agustin and Hector Zurita of San Antonio, TX.

The Reserve World Champion was Ross Roark with BPF Midas Touch, a bay colt by The Top Secret and out of RPL My Te Touching. Roark was at the lead for owner Josh Weakly. The third place team was Randy Jacobs with FR Shinerbock for Dan Fox. Fourth was Andy Staton with Never Tell A Secret for Robin Robinett. Rounding out the top five was Ronald Stratton with Nonstopable for David Hinkle.

In the Yearling Colts class, Ross Roark moved up a spot to claim a unanimous win for owner Gerri Leigh Pratt with Rumerz, a beautiful dark brown stallion by Secretz and out of Kids Keeping Cool. This was a particularly special win for Pratt because Rumerz is a home-bred horse.

“I foaled him out,” Pratt says. “When he stood up and he was wet, I said, ‘Oh boy, here we go. This is a good one.’ I just didn’t want to show him until he was dead on and neither did Ross. He’s been with Ross ever since he was weaned. We just held him back and decided to show him this year because he came on. This is only his second horse show. He went to one and qualified.”

Among the many enviable qualities Rumerz possesses, Pratt praises this colt’s good, strong legs and eye-appeal. Looking towards the future, Pratt definitely sees this horse being able to go on to sire the next generation of champions.

“It’s all about his overall physical being,” Pratt says. “He is deadly legged, which is something you really want today; I am insistent on that. He has a gorgeous head and beautiful neck that ties in great, and he has a gorgeous hip. He’s my horse, so I’m a little bit prejudice, but I really do think he is magnificent!”

This win is bittersweet, however, because Rumerz now has new owners, Steve and Kathy Headley. When deciding whether she wanted to sell this special horse, Pratt says she was “extremely picky” about where he would end up.

“He stays with Ross, which is the most important thing to me,” she says. “Steve Headley and his family are wonderful people, and I know he will be taken care of and promoted in the correct way. I am really excited, but it is bittersweet. I have his momma and his dad, therefore he needs to go on to someone else and start another little generation.”
