Evening Wins at 2014 APHA World Show Go To Christensen, McDuffie, Hachtel, and Petersen

This evening’s schedule at the 2014 APHA World Show had something for every equine enthusiast ranging from the free-flowing strides of Junior Hunter Under Saddle to the measured steps of 2-Year-Old Western Pleasure. To kick off the evening’s festivities, Shane Christensen rode All Rise, aka “Spyder,” to his third World Championship title of the show. Spyder was also named the World Champion in Classic Amateur Junior Hunter Under Saddle with Jennifer Schexnayder and Junior Hunter Hack with Nada Wise.

This win marks a special occasion for Christensen because it is his first time being named an APHA World Champion. “He’s amazing,” Christensen says. “He trots great and canters great. I think Jennifer has probably won every circuit every time we’ve shown him, and he won two World Championships and two Reserve Championships at the Pinto World Show.”

Not only did Spyder win the Junior Hunter Hack just a few days ago, it was his very first time showing in the event. Up next, the multi-talented five-year-old gelding will compete in Junior Pleasure Driving and Junior Western Riding.

“Until he came here, he’d only been shown a few times in Western Riding,” Christensen says. “We taught him to jump and how to pull a cart. We taught him how to do Showmanship and Jennifer did the Equitation on him here.”

The Farnam Non Pro 3 and 4-Year-Old Western Pleasure Stakes saw another new face in the winner’s circle. 21-year-old Carlee McDuffie won her first World Champion title in the amateur division aboard Get The Sensation. Coming in Reserve was Tracy Stenroos with So Seductive. Rounding out the top three was Erin Hunter Beasley with Lazy Luvah.

For McDuffie, who lost her previous horse last year, having the opportunity to show “Nick” is very special.

“We just got him in March,” she says. “We’ve shown probably five or six times. He’s really special. I lost my horse last year and Nick was just a gift from God.”

Going into the class this evening, McDuffie’s aspiration was to have a successful ride and let the chips fall where they may.

“I just wanted to have a good ride and enjoy it,” she says. “My trainers [Parks Show Horses] did an awesome job of getting him ready. He was perfect.”

Up next, McDuffie and Nick will compete in Classic Amateur Trail and Classic Amateur Junior Western Pleasure.

In the second Farnam class of the evening, a competitive group of 2-year-olds gathered to compete for a total purse of $35,000. Winning the class and a lion’s share of the pot, approximately $11,000, was Mike Hachtel with A Jellybean Impulse. The Reserve Champion was Martin Dixon with Nodoubtimsensational. Roudning out the top three was Wade Parks with
Scenery.

Finally, the evening concluded with the 3-Year-Old Novice Horse Limited Rider Western Pleasure Sweepstakes. Eric Petersen and Fleets Impulse were the Sweepstakes Champions followed by D John Deas in Reserve with Noterized and Jenna Hyde with Can I Get Your Number in third.
