Vernal, Simpson, and Drew Win Youth Horsemanship Classes at 2013 AjPHA Youth World Show

The first of the horsemanship classes at the 2013 AjPHA Youth World Championship Show are complete and two Novice Youth World Champions and one 13 and Under World Champion have been named. Winning the Novice Youth 13 and Under Horsemanship was small but mighty Georgia Vernal riding her four-year-old gelding Fascination Sensation, aka “Theodore.”

The Reserve World Champion in the class was Delaney Kough and Gota Take A Chance. Rounding out the top three was Talyn Smith riding Sensational Me.

In the Novice Youth 14-18 Horsemanship Karyn Simpson rode Just Pretend to a World Championship finish with Gabrielle D’Agostini and Invite Only Zippen not far behind in Reserve. The third place winner was Lauren Michael Ashton riding Dressed All Fancy.

In the 13 and Under Horsemanship, Emily Drew added yet another World Championship title to her long list of accolades here at the Youth World Show. Mackenzie Chapman and Have A Good Flight came in Reserve. Third place was Kameron Thorn with Vested Sheik. In the Limited portion of the class Mackenzie Chapman was named the Champion and Kameron Thorn was Reserve.

We were able to chat briefly with Georgia Vernal, who has already won two World Championship titles here at the Youth World. Earlier in the show, Vernal rode Fascination Sensation to a World Championship in 13 and Under Hunter Under Saddle.

“Theodore and I are just alike,” she says. “Both of us don’t want to get ready for horse shows, like with the hair and makeup and everything. I hate that. And when he has to get ready, like getting washed, he hates that too.”

Although this pair isn’t too fond of the elaborate costuming and extensive grooming that comes along with competing at the Youth World Show, Vernal and Theodore definitely turn their sparkle on when they hit the show pen. Theodore is only four years old, so his foray into pattern classes is relatively new. However, the pair was done quite well here at the show placing third in 13 and Under Equitation just a few days ago.

“It’s new for him, but I thought it went really well,” she says. “I thought my turn could’ve been better, but I was ok with it.”

Now that the all around classes have concluded Vernal is excited to compete in her horse’s signature class tomorrow, western pleasure. Currently, the pair competes under the guidance of Tim and Shannon Gillespie.

The 14-18 Horsemanship Preliminaries are still underway, so be sure to stay tuned to find out the results later this evening…
