From NSBA:

Consignments to NSBA’s 12th annual Markel Insurance Breeders Championship Futurity Yearling Sale are now open. The 2024 yearling sale will be held on Friday, August 16, at the Built Ford Tough Livestock Complex in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The sale is held during the 2024 NSBA World Championship Show and Breeders Championship Futurity, which will take place August 8-18.

A limited number of consignments will be accepted. Entries will close on June 1 unless the sale catalog fills prior to the deadline. Hip numbers will be determined by using the first letter of the second dam’s name, starting with “K” in 2024. (In future years, hip number determination will use the same system but dropping five letters each subsequent year.) Consignors who voluntarily submit radiographs of their yearlings to the 2024 Markel Insurance Breeders Championship Futurity Sale will find their yearlings placed in a more desirable spot in the sale.

How To Consign
Horse owners who would like to consign their yearling to this year’s sale can download the consignment form on the NSBA website at nsba.com/yearling-sale. All yearlings must be enrolled in NSBA’s Breeders Championship Futurity and/or Color Breeders Championship Futurity to be eligible for consignment.

About The Sale
The Markel Insurance Breeder Championship Futurity Yearling Sale is a limited entry consignment sale designed to bring many of the nation’s top yearlings to public sale. Photos and videos of yearling consignments will be available online once the sale catalog closes, and an online bidding portal is provided for buyers during the sale.

The 2023 NSBA Markel Insurance Breeders Championship Futurity Yearling Sale set a new record for gross sales. The gross sales on the 99 yearlings that went through the sale ring were $2,130,300, providing consignors with a sale average of $18,578 per head. The top ten sale average was $67,850 and the top 20 sale average was $45,547.

The NSBA Markel Insurance Breeders Championship Futurity Yearling Sale generated an estimated $218,121.50 that will be set aside for sale graduates who will compete for $109,060.25 as two year olds in 2024 in a designated Breeders Championship Futurity two year old class or compete for $109,060.25 as three year olds in 2025 in a designated Breeders Championship Futurity three year old class. The Sale Graduate purse is in addition to NSBA’s Breeders Championship Futurity and Color Breeders Championship Futurity payouts that are provided in each BCF and Color BCF class.

In addition, three year old graduates from the 2022 NSBA yearling sale who did not designate a BCF class at the 2023 NSBA World Championship Show will be eligible to compete for their share of $105,497.50 at the 2024 World Championship Show.

In the past 11 years, the Markel Insurance Breeders Championship Futurity Yearling Sale has generated a purse of more than $1.2 million for sale graduates who declare a Breeders Championship Futurity class to compete in during either their graduate’s two year old or three year old year. The graduate must place in the top ten in the class to earn a portion of the Sale Graduate purse. The Sale Graduate purse is in addition to the NSBA’s Breeders Championship Futurity and Color Breeders Championship Futurity payouts that are provided in each BCF or Color BCF class, which paid more than $467,190 in 2023.
