World and Congress Champion, Cool Cruzen Lady, Joins Ihde Show String

At this year’s AQHA World Show, we had the opportunity to chat with Blake Weis and Jane Humes following Cool Cruzen Lady’s win in Junior Western Riding for the second year in a row. In 2017, the 4-year-old filly by VS Flatline and out of Suddenly A Cool Lady broke the Junior Western Riding World Show record with a score of 232. This year, she improved upon that performance with a 235. In addition, at the Congress this year, “Hazel,” won the 4-5-Year-Old Trail Stakes.

“This year, she’s a little more mature and a little more sure of her job,” Blake says. “That’s what I think the difference was in the two goes. She’s more to the point where I don’t have to help her. I can sit back and show. If I have bad timing, or a bad spot, she still does it. She’s not riding like a baby anymore.”

Now, Hazel has joined a new family with Kelly and Samantha Ihde. “My mom’s first horse she ever owned was a roan mare, and she’d always wanted to own another. However, all we’ve been buying are red geldings!”

“When we came to the World Show this year, we weren’t looking to buy anything. I was at home, working as a chef in the busy holiday season. I joked around with her and asked if she liked anything showing in the Junior Western Riding, since I couldn’t be there to watch. She told me she liked Blake’s roan horse. I giggled and thought that would never be a possibility…”

“By the time I had arrived to the show, she and my trainer, Tony Brown, had fallen in love with her. I rode her and then also fell in love, and our little joke became a reality! I’m still novice in Western Riding, and I cannot wait to have such an amazing mare to teach me! This would’ve never happened without the help of Tonya Brown, Nancy Renfro and of course Blake and Kendra Weis and Jane Humes for the opportunity to own her!”
