HYPP Test Results For Appaloosa Foals

Filed under: Club & Show News,Club and Show News |

ApHC News

If your ApHC-eligible foal is the result of a breeding to an AQHA-registered stallion or mare born on or after January 1, 2007 with an HYPP status of NH or HH, it will be required to be HYPP tested at the same time it is parentage verified in order to be registered. The HYPP test results will be designated on the foal’s ApHC Certificate of Registration. Descendents of NH or HH ApHC-registered horses will also be required to be HYPP tested/Parentage Verified and have the HYPP status designated on their ApHC Certificates of Registration.
If you want to administer Acetazolamide, a drug used with apparent success for prevention of clinical episodes of paralysis, when showing your registered Appaloosa in an ApHC-approved or sponsored event, your Appaloosa’s positive (N/H or H/H) HYPP test results must be documented through the ApHC by DNA testing from a sample that has also been tested to verify parentage. The positive HYPP status of your Appaloosa must be noted on the ApHC Certificate of Registration and made available to the public in the horse’s files. This must be done prior to the horse being shown in any ApHC-approved or –sponsored show. For further information regarding administering acetazolamide, see Administration Guidelines in the current Official Handbook of the ApHC.

Join a tradition of excellence and the growing number of proud Appaloosas owners by submitting your registration application today.

ApHC members can register fillies and colts for a registration fee of only $30 as long as the application is postmarked between their foal date and 6th month foal date.
