Buckeye Classic to Host First NCEA Jr. Medal Horsemanship Class and YEDA Challenge

For the next nine days, AQHA competitors will enjoy one of the most well-attended, back-to-back show circuits in the country- The Little Buckeye and Buckeye Classic in Wilmington, Ohio.
The Little Buckeye kicks off today and will continue through July 15th with judges April Devitt, Casey Devitt, Melissa Dukes, Dean Bogart, Jeff Greaves, and Jennifer Leckey officiating. Not only with competitors have the opportunity to snag three sets of AQHA points and one set of NSBA points, all AQHA youth entries will be FREE!
The Buckeye Classic will provide six sets of AQHA points and two sets of NSBA points, July 17-22, with Nancy Alto Renfro, Rick Baker, Chad Evans, Dolly Chayer, Robin Frid, Holly Hover, Mary Luther, Jennifer Thompson, and Sara Simons judging. All AQHA amateur entries will be FREE!
Like always, The Equine Chronicle Hospitality Tent will provide cold water and snacks for the entire circuit. Also, be on the lookout for the mobile Chronicle Cart that will be delivering goodies on the go around the show grounds.
In addition to fun events like the Buckeye Classic Golf Outing on July 16th and the second annual Donkey Race on July 18th, the show will host the first-ever NCEA Jr Medal Horsemanship Class and YEDA Challenge. This special event will take place on Tuesday, July 17th following NSBA classes. Judges will be Holly Hover and Robin Frid.

The National Collegiate Equestrian Association (NCEA), in cooperation with the NCAA, is the national governing body for collegiate equestrian sport for female student athletes at the top colleges in the country. The Youth Equestrian Development Association (YEDA) is a program that caters to three levels of riding including Elementary (4th and 5th grade), Junior High (6th through 8th grade), and Senior High (9th through 12th grade).
All youth at the Buckeye are eligible to participate in the Horsemanship Challenge, unless they have been signed or are currently participating on a NCEA team. All riders must wear plain Oxford shirts. A discount will be available from Kathy Williams.
The $40 entry fee includes class entry and NCEA Jr membership, as well as a special clinic that will take place on Monday where Brent Tincher will explain the Horsemanship pattern that all riders will navigate during the competition the following day. Haul in for horses is allowed for stalls and shavings at a rate of $100 for one day/night.
For the class format, all entries will run an individual pattern with no rail work. Riders may compete on their own horses or draw a horse. The top eight riders will draw YEDA-provided horses to compete in head-to-head elimination brackets. When the dusts settles, scholarships will be awarded to the overall winner and the rookie winner. In addition, Harris Leather and Silverworks has donated a $100 gift certificate that will be presented to the highest placing rider competing in a Harris saddle.
