Meet the Rood & Riddle Veterinarians at New, Updated Wellington, FL. Facility

the managing partner at the Wellington facility, is a shareholder and 32-year veteran of Rood & Riddle. He obtained his undergraduate degree from Northwest Missouri State, graduated from veterinary school at the University of Missouri in 1983, and then joined Rood & Riddle in 1985. His professional interests include working with juvenile Thoroughbreds, upper airway endoscopy and public and private sales.

Jennifer Jordan, V.M.D., DACVS, is a magna cum laude graduate of the University Of Pennsylvania College Of Veterinary Medicine. After graduation, Dr. Jordan completed an internship at Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine, followed by a large animal surgery residency at the New Bolton Center in Pennsylvania. A Diplomate in the American College of Veterinary Surgeons, Dr. Jordan practices in both Lexington, Kentucky and Wellington, Florida throughout the year.

Ashley Embly, D.V.M., graduated magna cum laude from the University Of Georgia College Of Veterinary Medicine. After graduation, Dr. Embly completed an internship with Rood & Riddle in Lexington, Kentucky. Following her internship, she stayed on with Rood & Riddle as an ambulatory associate and also served for one year as the resident vet of Stonestreet Farms. Dr. Embly also completed the Chi Institute’s course for acupuncture. Although Dr. Embly’s primary focus is sport horses, she also has a solid background in reproduction and Thoroughbred work. She divides her practice time between Lexington, Kentucky and Wellington, Florida.

Riley Pierce, D.V.M., was born and raised in Lexington, Kentucky. From a young age Dr. Pierce became involved in the thoroughbred industry and equine veterinary medicine, watching his father Dr. Scott Pierce help grow Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital to what it is today. Riley graduated from the University of Missouri-College of Veterinary Medicine to become the fifth veterinarian in his family. Following graduation, Dr. Pierce completed an internship at Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington. He then traveled to and made South Florida his home, after marrying his wife, a small-animal veterinarian and Wellington native. Dr. Pierce will provide general veterinary healthcare as well as assist Dr. Jose Bras in caring for hospitalized patients in an effort to deliver the same high-quality veterinary services he has been a part of since childhood.

John Hubbell, D.V.M., M.S., ACVAA, was raised in Lima, Ohio, in a pet and horse owning family.  After receiving his D.V.M. from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1977, he completed an equine surgery internship at the University of California, Davis and then returned to Ohio State as a resident in veterinary anesthesiology. Dr. Hubbell joined the faculty at Ohio State in 1982, where he served until 2015. Dr. Hubbell has been an American College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia Diplomate since 1982, written numerous articles on veterinary anesthesia and is the co-author of two textbooks: Handbook of Veterinary Anesthesia and Equine Anesthesia Monitoring and Emergency Therapy

Stephen Reed D.V.M.,a shareholder of Rood & Riddle, graduated from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1976. Following a residency in internal medicine at Michigan State University, Dr. Reed accepted a faculty position at the College of Veterinary Medicine at Washington State University in 1976. In 1983, he joined the faculty at The Ohio State University as an assistant professor, rising to the title of professor in 1994. In 2003, Dr. Reed was named to the Jenne Professorship in Equine Medicine and Surgery and held that title until moving to Rood & Riddle in 2007. Dr. Reed is widely recognized for his commitment to the horse, equine veterinarians and the equine industry. As a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine, he developed an interest in the specialty of equine neurology and became recognized as an expert in this area. He has written and spoken extensively on “wobbler” syndrome, equine protozoal myelitis, head trauma and the neurologic examination. In addition, Dr. Reed has authored and coauthored more than 150 peer-reviewed publications including Equine Internal Medicine, the only internal medicine textbook dedicated solely to the horse. In 2008, he also co-edited the textbook, Equine Neurology, with Dr. Martin Furr. Dr. Reed has received a number of recognitions for his work, including the Schering-Plough Animal Health and World Veterinary Association Award for Applied Research. In 2008, he was chosen to deliver the Frank J. Milne Lecture at the annual meeting of the American Association of Equine Practitioners, a singular honor given to a leader in equine veterinary medicine.

Dr. Rolf Embertson DVM, Dipl. ACVS, graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelor of Science in Zoology in 1976.  He also attended Michigan State where he graduated from Veterinary School in 1979 followed by an internship at Illinois Equine Hospital.  Dr. Embertson completed a Large Animal Surgery Residency at the University of Florida, followed by an Equine Surgery Residency at The Ohio State University.  In 1986, he became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons.  Dr. Embertson is a Surgeon and Shareholder at Rood & Riddle.

Scott Morrison, D.V.M., is a 1999 graduate of the Virginia Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. He is also a graduate of the Eastern School of Farriery and built a successful farrier business prior to enrollment at Virginia Tech. Following graduation in 1999, Dr. Morrison completed a one-year hospital internship at Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky. Following the internship, he was hired by Rood & Riddle as an associate veterinarian and began to develop Rood & Riddle’s podiatry department. Today, in addition to being a shareholder and working as a veterinary podiatrist, Dr. Morrison manages the Rood & Riddle Podiatry Center and travels throughout the United States and Europe to consult and lecture.

Raul Bras, D.V.M., like his brother Dr. Jose Bras, grew up in Puerto Rico. He finished his undergraduate at Louisiana State University with a bachelor of science in animal science. He graduated from Ross University Veterinary School in 2005 and completed his clinical year at Auburn University. In 2005, Dr. Bras completed a surgery internship at Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital and the following year stayed on as an associate veterinarian in the Podiatry Department. Dr. Bras completed the farrier program at Cornell University in 2007 and in 2010 became a Certified Journeyman Farrier of the American Farrier’s Association. In 2012, he became a shareholder at Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital. In addition to providing his expertise in equine podiatry in Lexington, Kentucky, Dr. Bras currently travels throughout the United States including Ohio, Minnesota, South Carolina, Florida and New York on a monthly basis, bringing his highly specialized skills to his patients.
