Angela Wade Sweeps Amateur Trail at 2017 NSBA World With A Soxy Dream AND The Perfect Kryme

Angela Wade accomplished an impressive feat yesterday afternoon at the 2017 NSBA World Championship Show, not only winning Amateur Trail with A Soxy Dream, but also being named the Reserve Champion with her other horse, The Perfect Kryme.

Making this double win even more special for Angela is the fact that A Soxy Dream is just four years old. “Winning the Amateur Trail with her is really special. This is my first big title with her, because we’ve only had her for a year. I didn’t show at the Congress or World Show last year, so this is kind of my first big show with her.”

The mare Angela fondly calls “Sister” hasn’t been part of the Sea Ridge Farms team for very long, but she’s already becoming a quick favorite with trainers, Michael Colvin and Patty Vatterott.

“I ride each of my horses very differently. Michael really helps me with Clyde [The Perfect Kryme], and Patty really helps me with Sister [A Soxy Dream]. There is a little bit of crossover, but, for the most part, each one of them shows those horses in Open events as well, so I kind of have separate teaching. In some ways, it makes it a little easier when we go in, because I’m just following one person’s set of instructions for one horse and then another person’s set of instructions for the other horse.”

For this particular pattern, Angela says having patience was the key element to success. “I think the biggest thing today was to be patient, especially in the beginning with the sidepass and the turn. I tried not to rush anything, especially because I was showing a four-year-old. I tried to wait for the departures and be soft when using my feet. She has more of those Western Pleasure buttons, which I like.”

AngelaComing into the class, Angela considered the possibility that she might be able to score a top finish with both horses, but she never expected this. “I was hoping, but I didn’t watch all the trips, and I saw some good ones. Clyde is eight years old, so he’s definitely a lot more broke and steady, but Sister is so slow legged and her cadence over the poles is so beautiful. Today, I really felt that I had her loping and standing up. She had such presence.”

Later on here at the show, Sister will be shown in the BCF 4-6-Year-Old Non Pro and Open Trail. “She’s a very busy girl at this horse show!” Angela laughs. In addition, Clyde still has Amateur Western Riding and Senior Western Riding.

This isn’t the first time that Angela has swept the awards ceremony during a Trail class. At the 2016 Quarter Horse Congress, Angela was second, third, and fourth in Amateur Trail. After the NSBA World Show has concluded, Angela and her dynamic duo will head to the Quarter Horse Congress once again this year. “We’re all going to the Congress and World Show, so I’m really excited!”
