Western Pleasure Super Sire Event Pays Out $50,000

In just four short years, the Western Pleasure Super Sires Program has paid out over $270,000. On a sunny weekend in June at the Tom Powers Futurity, more than $50,000 was added to that already impressive total. The cash prizes were awarded to winners of the three WPSS classes offered: Yearling Non-Pro Longe Line, 3-YearOld Non-Pro Limited Western Pleasure, and 3-Year-Old Non-Pro Western Pleasure. In addition to big checks, exhibitors went home with prizes that included a halter from Harris Leather and Silverworks, Champion and Reserve Champion buckles from Rowdy Silver, two Wenger Leather Works Custom Saddles, pallets of Airlite Shavings, $2,000 in Nutrena Feed, and Rod Patrick boots. In addition, a beautiful traveling trophy, donated by Marrita Black, is awarded each year to the stallion with the most points accumulated by offspring. The 2017 winner was Extremely Hot Chips for owner Russ Louderback for the second year in a row.
The WPSS program is one of the very few, truly nonprofit futurity programs. The stallion owners and generous sponsors provide all of the added money. The goal of the Executive Committee is to give back to the breeders, owners, and competitors, while promoting horses and the sport of horse showing. WPSS was created by a small, elite group of professionals just five short years ago in 2012. As their mission statement says, “WPSS seeks to foster Western Pleasure riders of all skill levels, in all competitions, and support the breeding of quality bloodlines for future Western Pleasure show horses for those riders.” The goal is to promote select Western Pleasure stallions of superior bloodlines, to guide mare owners to breed to that select group of stallions, to aid in the marketing of the offspring to non-pro buyers so they can ride for big purses. So far, their system is working superbly! The WPSS group of select stallion owners is attracting more mares to breed to their stallions and mare owners of the foals are able to market their offspring and sell more easily due to the big purses and prizes that are offered at the annual event each year. Furthermore, the non-pro competitors have the opportunity to win $10,000 for first place in the Western Pleasure events and $5,000 in the Longe Line class, more money than any other non-pro event offered anywhere!
