Death of Experienced Horsewoman Due to Lead Rope Strangulation is Sobering Reminder About Horse Safety

P1020705The news of a very unfortunate death coming out of the United Kingdom serves as a sobering reminder about horse safety and handling. According to numerous news reports, 39-year-old Kathryn Bull of Nottinghamshire was killed after a lead rope, attached to a horse she was leading, caught around her neck.

There were no eyewitnesses, but it is believed that she was standing in between two horses, attempting to halter and lead them in for the dentist. After haltering the first horse, she then attempted to halter the second, when the first horse bolted and drug her 450 feet across the field. It is not known how the lead rope ended up around her neck.

On behalf of the equestrian community, our sincerest condolences go out to her family.
