Troxel LLC, the worldwide leader in ASTM/SEI-certified equestrian helmets, has partnered with 2014 National Finals Rodeo (NFR) World Champion, Fallon Taylor to design a signature line of equestrian helmets and will be sponsoring the rider in an effort to help promote helmet awareness and rider safety.
Taylor, a former model and actress, shocked onlookers when she emerged in the third round of the NFR in 2014 wearing a helmet and became the first NFR champion to win while sporting the safety gear. Taylor has been helping pave the way for helmet acceptance in the rodeo circuit ever since, a sport where cowboy hats are heavily favored over safety helmets.
Helmet awareness is an important and personal crusade for Taylor who suffered a broken neck after getting bucked off a horse in 2009. She sustained a four-place skull fracture, broke numerous facial bones and broke her C-2 vertebrae—the same injury that paralyzed late actor Christopher Reeve—from the accident. While she’s made a complete recovery, Fallon still suffers from migraines and short-term memory loss and has had to make adjustments to continue her riding career, including wearing a safety helmet. “After having my head shaved and four screws [inserted] into my skull, I quickly realized that I would look cooler in a helmet than I did leaving the hospital!” said Taylor.
Troxel and Taylor have teamed up to produce the new line of signature helmets, influenced by Taylor’s wild and flashy style. “Troxel is the best fitting helmet on the market and I’m thrilled to have designed a new line of helmets with the Troxel team! I love to mix and match colors and patterns and can’t wait to create even more!” said Taylor. Troxel’s CEO, Shay Timms said, “We commend Fallon for breaking the mold by wearing a helmet in professional rodeo. She’s had such a positive impact on hundreds of athletes and we’re excited to provide riders the option to wear helmets designed with her signature touch.”
