21+ First-Time World Champions Crowned at Select World Show

That’s a wrap on the 2019 AQHA Select World Championship Show, presented by Adequan® (polysulfated glycosaminoglycan). AQHA Select exhibitors from the United States, Canada and Costa Rica competed for 44 world championship titles August 27-31 at the Will Rogers Memorial Center in Fort Worth, Texas.
More than 625 horses and nearly 500 exhibitors competed in western, English and halter events with more than 950 entries for the show. In addition to Level 3 classes, the top three Super-Select and Adequan® Level 2 competitors were also recognized within each class.

Action at the Will Rogers Memorial Center continued outside of the arena, too! Exhibitors attended a welcome party, sponsored by Victor and Hannia Wolf and Ganadera Chomes; celebrated at two exhibitor parties – one sponsored by Markel and the other hosted by the Will Rogers Memorial Center and the city of Fort Worth.
AQHA Professional Horsemen volunteered their time to give free Ride the Pattern clinics, presented by Nutrena. These clinics gave exhibitors and spectators the perfect opportunity to learn how AQHA Professional Horsemen would approach a specific 2019 Adequan® Select World pattern. Thanks to the generosity of Select exhibitors and Nutrena’s contribution to match the amount donated by attendees, the Professional Horsemen Crisis Fund raised more than $13,000.
Special Awards
The most prestigious award at the Adequan® Select World is the Sundowner Trailers AQHA Select All-Around title. There were 64 contenders for this year’s award. The 2019 Sundowner Trailers AQHA Select All-Around Amateur is Sharon Forbes-Hanks of Pilot Mound, Manitoba. Forbes-Hanks showed her American Quarter Horse Hot Lil Assets. The 2009 sorrel mare, by Protect Your Assets and out of Barbies Hot Rod, was bred by Cheryl Lang of Humboldt, Saskatchewan. Forbes-Hanks and Hot Lil Assets earned 50 points. They earned the reserve world championship in showmanship, placed third in horsemanship and hunt seat equitation, fourth in performance halter mares and ninth in western riding.
Forbes-Hanks received a prize package that included a one-year lease of a Sundowner three-horse trailer, an original Lisa Perry bronze and rose bouquet.

Eighty-five Super-Select exhibitors were eligible for the Gene Graves Super-Select Special Recognition Award, an all-around title for exhibitors ages 70 and over. This year, Twylla Lynn Brown of Perry, Missouri, and her American Quarter Horse Snap Krackle Pop won the reserve world championship in performance halter mares, placed third in trail and were finalists in western pleasure. Snap Krackle Pop, a two-time AQHA Superhorse, is a 2010 gray mare by RL Best of Sudden and out of Brandys Silver Sheik. The mare was bred by Masterson Farms LLC of Somerville, Tennessee.
The Nutrena Senior Athlete was also awarded to the exhibitor and horse pair that had the highest combined age competing at the Adequan® Select World. Butch Morgan of Sarasota, Florida, and SF Check Me Out were named the 2019 Nutrena Senior Athletes of the Show with a combined age of 99. The Nutrena Senior Athletes of the Show Award recognizes not only the exhibitors, but their equine partners. AQHA has proudly teamed with AQHA Corporate Partner Nutrena on this award since 2012.
SF Check Me Out is a 1999 bay gelding by Look Whos Larkin and out of Katie Chex by Docs Fritzl Chex. ”Larkin” was bred by Steve Fleming of Comanche, Texas. The pair showed in heeling at the 2019 Adequan® Select World.
The red dun mare Big Powdie Bars was named the top AQHA Ranching Heritage-bred horse at the Adequan® Select World. Big Powdie Bars and Sid Miller of Stephenville were the reserve world champions in the tie-down roping at the event. Big Powdie Bars is by Big Classic Wonder and out of Good As I Am. Miller, an AQHA Ranching Heritage Breeder, bred and owns the mare. As the owner and breeder of the top RHB-bred horse of the show, Miller received $500 and a specially designed trophy.
