Phenylbutazone (“bute”) is an anti-inflammatory drug—a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory similar to aspirin, Advil, Motrin, Banamine, etc. Bute has been used for decades in horses to relieve pain, particularly in musculoskeletal injuries, navicular syndrome, arthritis, and so on. Melinda Freckleton, DVM (a private practitioner in Catlett, Virginia) says this is a drug that is used frequently and is a comparatively safe and effective way to reduce pain and inflammation.

AQHYA Past President Justin Eddy of Rocheport, Missouri, was recognized as the 2021 Wrangler ASPIRE Award recipient on July 14 during the 2021 Bank of America Youth Excellence Seminar in Amarillo.

There were many special events during the show, like the Emily Barnes Memorial Non Pro Western Pleasure that helped to raise funds for St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Emily was a part of the PQHA family and she lost her battle with cancer in December of 2020. There was a Non Pro Western Pleasure class held in her honor with only a $20 entry fee and a purse of over $3,700.
