An Inside Look at New “Restricted Registry” Proposal that Aims to Promote Inclusivity and Protect Paint Horse Breed

Allowing solid horses to show alongside their colored peers is certainly not a new discussion. It’s something that has been contemplated for years. However, with the current state of the industry, the Committee believes that the time is now to make such a move so future generations have a Paint Horse industry to enjoy. Hence, the reason for asking the Board of Directors for Emergency Action on the proposal, instead of waiting until the 2021 Convention.

Author of “They Rode Good Horses,” Don Hedgpeth,  Has Passed

Don Hedgpeth of Medina, Texas, who in 1990 wrote AQHA’s 50-year history “They Rode Good Horses,” passed away on June 25, at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio after a 30-year battle with leukemia. Don was a beloved husband, father and friend, as well as an award-winning writer and expert on cowboys and western heritage.

Now that competitions are starting to resume in certain states, exhibitors in the Midwest were excited to get back to their old stomping grounds at Gordyville in Illinois for the Illinois Paint Horse Association’s Firecracker Classic. True to the show’s name, the event took place July 2-3 over Fourth of July weekend.
