We had an excellent, general membership meeting this morning at the AQHA Convention. AQHA’s Most Valuable Professional for 2017 is Gretchen Mathis.
President Ralph Seekins called the meeting to order. Reports were given by Executive Vice President Craig Huffines, Anna Lee Morrison, Trent Taylor, and The American Horse Council. The Professional Horsewoman of 2017 is Holly Hover and the Professional Horseman of 2017 is Dan Trein.
In addition, the International and Ranching Heritage Breeders were honored. Open Committee meetings are this afternoon starting at 2 pm.
Friday, March 2nd
The 2018 AQHA Convention kicked off on Friday in Jacksonville, Florida with an Equine Industry Business Workshop, Industry Issues Town Hall Meeting, and culminated with the President’s Reception.
The fun continues tomorrow with the General Membership Meeting 8-11:30 am; Board of Directors Meeting 11:30-12:00 pm, Board of Directors Lunch 12:00-1 pm; Committee Meetings 2-5; PAC Reception at 5:30; and finally the Foundation in Paradise Party at 6:30. The Foundation Party is certain to be a blast as The Bellamy Brothers will be performing! In addition, the tropical themed soiree will include games, food truck snacks, and a cash bar.
When it comes time to get down to the nitty gritty, rule change proposals will be discussed and then advanced to the Board of Directors and then possibly the Executive Committee. Click here to watch a quick video that explains how ideas turn into rule changes.

Day 1- Friday, March 2nd
We attended the AQHA Presidents’ Reception tonight. It’s always great to see Ralph and Connie Seekins and daughter, Beth Austin. The reception was very nice with drinks and finger food. Members had a great time!
I saw my friends from the Netherlands, Italy and Germany. The General Membership Meeting starts at 8 am tomorrow morning, so stay tuned…

The first day at the Convention included a Town Hall for equine professionals. It included updates on CDL laws, tax information, and rules. Also, Craig Huffhines gave a presentation on the transformation of AQHA as we move the processes and practices, and technology, into the 21st century. Afterwards, attendees enjoyed the President’s Reception on the terrace overlooking Jacksonville. Day 2 begins with the General Membership meeting and Committee meetings.
