Youth Earn College Cash From 2016 Farnam Breeders Trust Scholarship Program

All AjPHA members automatically receive an “entry” into the Farnam Breeders’ Trust Youth Scholarship program every time they show a Breeders’ Trust-nominated Paint Horse in APHA Youth or Novice Youth classes during the yearlong eligibility period. Entries accumulate per judge, per class, and were collected between April 1, 2015, and March 31, 2016.

“It was very successful. We had 103 entries in the buckle classes alone. I know there was a small group that came just for those classes, but their trainer convinced them to do the Youth classes as well,” Heather said. “In talking to people, some were very hesitant about Paint shows to begin with, but they made a lot of friends along the way.”

A favorite moment for me from the weekend took place during Leadline, which will come as no surprise to anyone. My soon-to-be 5-year-old son, Landon, currently rotates showing at Paint shows between my gelding, Casey, and multiple World and Reserve World Champion, Brokers Lucky Kid, aka “Denver.” Usually led by either of my trainers, Kip Larson or Mike Davis, Denver’s owner/rider, Mackenzie Preston, took the lead.
