The North Carolina Quarter Horse Association’s Little River Circuit is celebrating their 40th anniversary in style in a new location: the beautiful Senator Bob Martin Eastern Agricultural Center in Williamston!
The 2016 District IV Little River Circuit is the second of four AQHA shows that will be held at the facility in 2016; the first was the well-attended Martinganza Quarter Horse Show and Futurity earlier this year. Following the Little River Circuit, May 19-22, AQHA competitors will return for the Summer Spectacular, July 29-31, and the Endless Summer, August 19-21. All shows are AQHA, NCQHA, and VQHA approved for points.
Judging the Little River Circuit next Thursday and Friday will be Brian Holmes and Trigg Rentfro. Judges for Saturday and Sunday will be Cyndi Brown and Carolyn Birnie Buckley.
Show Secretary Susan Daniels has been with the NCQHA and Little River for many years and recalls many fond memories. “Brad Gibby told us he won a trophy at the Little River Farm Circuit in 1976, when it was held in Southern Pines, NC. at the Little River Farm! The show had to move when the farm was sold around 1990, and it went to Lake Waccamaw, NC. We stayed there with the exception of one year and moved to Camden, SC. in 2010. This year, we have moved it back into North Carolina since it’s run by people from North Carolina and it’s a NCQHA sanctioned show.”
In 1991, the circuit teamed up with the North Carolina Amateur Association to host a Team Tournament for competitors. This fun, special event gives riders the opportunity to win great prizes and meet fellow exhibitors. It’s also a fundraiser for the NCQHA District IV, the NC Amateur Association, and the Guilford Civitan Club.
Daniels is also excited about the cost benefit of this event hosting four judges over a four day time period. “The Little River Circuit offers four sets of judges’ points, all AQHA classes, the office charge, the AQHA drug fee, stall, and three bags of shavings for only $350! It’s always been a fun show. It’s a beautiful facility, and we hope the exhibitors will come and join us for a good show and lots of fun!”
