2014 NRHA European Futurity Kicks Off in Germany

Show Time in Kreuth: Terrific three-way tie as Ann Poels-Fonk, Markus Gebert and Duane Latimer tie to win the NRHA European Futurity Level 4 Open division qualifying go-round with scores 220.5

For Immediate Release – Kreuth, Germany – March 31, 2014 – By Simona Diale – The qualifying go-round of the National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) European Open Futurity offering the €92.000-added level (L) 4, €35.000-added L 3, the €15.000-added or more L 2 and the €7.500-added or more L 1 was held in Kreuth, Germany, today.

Riding Claudia Scheunemann’s Dunits Smokin Gun, an own son of Gunner and out of Dunit Sugar Quixote (by Hollywood Dun It), Ann Poels-Fonck was the last to show in the Open Futurity qualifying go-round. Aboard the stallion bred and nominated by Willem Langendoen, she closed her run with a 220.5 and tied to win the go-round along with Duane Latimer and Markus Gerbert.

Latimer had set the bar early in the second section with a 220.5 riding Gotta Nifty Gun (Dun It Gotta Gun x Custom Nifty Nic x Custom Crome) for owners Luga Quarter Horses. This stallion was bred and nominated (for North America) by Carl Lambert and nominated for Europe by Luga Quarter Horses.

Also earning a 220.5 was Gebert and Charly Step N Cool (Wimpys Little Step x Charlys Cool Running x As Smart As Charley), owned by Angelika Gebert. The pair closed the 2013 show season by winning all four levels of the NRHA/Italian Reining Horse Association (IRHA) Open Futurity last year. The athletic bay mare was bred and nominated by Michael Schubert and boasts over $58,000 in NRHA LTE.

Nina Lill of Germany riding Forevergun (One Gun x Es Sweet Little Bar) a stallion bred and nominated by Alice Marinoni and owned by Franz Jaksche, held the lead in the Level 3 division after having posted a 219.5 in the first section of the go-round yesterday.

Leading the L 2 and the L 1 Open qualifying go round is Susanne Schnell. The German rider closed her run with a 216 riding Dunits Finest Stop (Footworks Finest x Smart Katy Rio x Ill Be Smart), a stallion bred and nominated by Christine Bayer and owned by Wolfgang Neuendorff.

The open finals will be held Saturday, April 5 and will be free to the public! Everyone is invited to watch the Youth 13 & Under and 14-18 class starting at 8 a.m. that morning followed by the Arcese €5,000-added Non Pro class. Also, make plans to stay for the Champions Party after the open finals.

A portion of the go-round entries will move on to Saturday’s open finals:

L 4 Open (58 entries) = top 15, plus ties

L 3 Open (42 entries) = top 15, plus ties

L 2 Open (39 entries) = top 15, plus ties

L1 Open (25 entries) = top 10, plus ties

A portion of the go-round entries will move on to Wednesday’s consolation for another opportunity to advance to the finals:

L 4 Open = next 15, plus ties

L 3 Open = next 11, plus ties

L 2 Open = next 10, plus ties

L1 Open = next 6, plus ties

A portion of the consolation entries will move on to Saturday’s open finals:

L 4 Open = top 3, plus ties

L 3 Open = top 2, plus ties

L 2 Open = top 2, plus ties

L1 Open = top 2, plus ties

Lara Lorengo and Wimpys Little Gun SG Top the Non Pro Qualifying Go-Round

The KL Performance Horses Non Pro Futurity offers the €36.000-added L 4, the €11.000-added or more L 3, the €6.400 or more L 2 and the €3.200 or more L 1. Lara Lorengo of Italy posted a 215, the high score in the L 4, riding her Wimpys Little Gun SG (Wimpys Little Step x Miss Gunna Slide x Slide Me To The Bar). With this stallion bred by Silvia Gandolfi and nominated by Lara, the Italian rider won the L 4 and L 3 non pro divisions at the NRHA/IRHA Futurity and placed fourth at the NRHA Germany Breeders Snaffle Bit Futurity.

Sandra Friesenbiller of Austria posted the high score in the L 3 and L 2 non pro divisions riding her Shine N Whiz, a stallion by Topsail Whiz and out of Spark N Pretty (by Shining Spark). Sandra, who bred and nominated this horse, scored a 212.

Leading the L 1 non pro division qualifying go-round is Arjan van de Watering. The Dutch rider scored a 207.5 with Whizards Lil Ruf (Sail On Top Whizard x Lil Trouble Miss x Lil Ruf Peppy), a gelding bred and nominated by Ann Fonck. With Arnaud Girinon in the saddle, Whizards Lil Ruf was a level 2 and level 1 open finalist at the Austrian Reining Horse Association Western Star Futurity.

A portion of the go-round entries will move on to Friday’s non pro finals:

L 4 Non Pro (33 entries) = top 13, plus ties

L 3 Non Pro (21 entries) = top 8, plus ties

L 2 Non Pro (22 entries) = top 9, plus ties

L1 Non Pro (12 entries) = top 5, plus ties

A portion of the go-round entries will move on to Wednesday’s consolation for another opportunity to advance to the finals:

L 4 Non Pro = next 8, plus ties
