The 2014 Florida Gold Coast Quarter Horse Circuit kicked off over Christmas weekend to sunny skies in southern Florida. The Bob Thomas Equestrian Center at the Florida State Fairgrounds in Tampa is the venue that will host AQHA competitors over the next eight days.
Right as the Florida Gold Coast Quarter Horse Circuit concludes on December 31st, the Florida Gulf Coast Quarter Horse Circuit will begin on January 1st and continue through the 5th.
The competition began on Day 1, December 27th, with AQHA Hunter and Trail classes as well as a fabulous tropical-themed Exhibitors’ Welcome Party in the Equine Chronicle Hospitality Pavilion. Day two featured a full day of Trail, Western Pleasure, Horsemanship, and Showmanship classes.
Congratulations to big winners like Linda Crothers and Jetset On Cruz for receiving a first place in L2 Working Hunter 2nd yr (Level 2) under judge Karen Watters. Coming in second on that card was Chuck Briggs with Do U Wanna Dance. Judge Robin Frid’s winner in Youth Working Hunter was Lindsey Whitehead with Skys Blue Sequel. Coming in second on that card was Nicholas Furlong with Executive Hotrodder.

Judge Karen Watters’ winner in a 31 entry Senior Trail class was Elizabeth Rinder with Hot Rockin Potential; the pair also won the same card of the Amateur Trail. Judge Brian Ellsworth’s winner of Amateur Select Trail was Joanne Garnett with A Sudden Illusion. Coming in second on that card was Joanne again with So Much Potential.
Judge David Avery’s winner of L1 Western Pleasure was Jay Southerland with Only In My Heart for owner Olivia Hoecker. Coming in second on that card was Trish Robertson riding So What Im Lazy, also for Olivia Hoecker. The Amateur Select Western Pleasure winner was Linda Ball Sargent with Cool Poco Dot.
Judge Chris Jeter’s winner of Amateur Select Showmanship was Sherrie Gultz with Invy Of Me. The second place team was Vickie Kent with Won Lopin RV Machine.

On the schedule for today are more over fence classes including the $1,000 Collection 3′ Hunter Classic at approximately 1 pm in the CWD Grand Prix Arena and the $1,000 Collection Non-Pro 2’6″ Hunter Classic directly following. Later today, be sure to attend a clinic with Lynn Palm and Cyril Pittion-Rossillion at 1 pm.
