The American Quarter Horse Association is back in Oklahoma City for the 2013 AQHA World Championship Show. The 40th year of the AQHA World Show will kick off Friday, November 8 at the State Fair Park in Oklahoma City.
AQHA invites equine enthusiasts to come see the show and enjoy the exciting events happening, November 8-23. The AQHA World Show will feature a variety of events and activities for competitors, friends, family and spectators. Special events include:
· Friday, November 8 – Barn Party at 7 p.m. in Barn 3
· Saturday, November 9 – Cowboy Mounted Shooting Demonstration and Professional Horsemen Shoot-Out at 7 p.m. in the Jim Norick Arena
· Monday, November 11 – Veterans Day Tribute – wear red
· Saturday, November 16 – Freestyle Horsemanship Exhibition with AQHA Professional Horsemen at 7 p.m. in the Jim Norick Arena
· Sunday, November 17 – Barn Party, Superhorse preview and live music by Denny Strickland at 6:30 p.m. in Barn 3
· Monday, November 18 – Member Appreciation Day – wear AQHA-logoed clothing
· Tuesday, November 19 – Pink Out Celebration at 7 p.m. in the Jim Norick Arena – wear pink
· Wednesday, November 20 – Team Wrangler Night at 7 p.m. in the Jim Norick Arena
· Thursday, November 21 – AQHA Collegiate Horsemanship Challenge at 7 p.m. in the Jim Norick Arena – wear college colors
New to the AQHA World Show
The 2013 AQHA World Show will host the first-ever Para-Reining competition in the United States. This event marks the maiden Para-Reining within the U.S. Para-Equestrian system and a launching of efforts to bring the discipline online as a fully recognized sport in 2014.
Para-Reining will include a clinic and educational seminar on Thursday, November 14, and a first-ever Para-Reining demonstration class on Friday, November 15.
Top Awards
The top awards presented at this year’s world show are the Farnam All-Around Amateur, Farnam Superhorse and Oklahoma City Leading Owner.
There are 54 qualifiers competing for the honor of being named the Farnam All-Around Amateur and a prize package that includes $15,000, plus $1,000 in Farnam product, an embroidered blanket courtesy of WeatherBeeta, an original Lisa Perry bronze and a rose bouquet. The All-Around Amateur presentation is November 15 in the Jim Norick Arena.
The Farnam Superhorse will be a stiff competition between 50 qualifiers all vying for a prize package of $25,000, plus $2,000 in Farnam product, an embroidered blanket courtesy of WeatherBeeta, an original Lisa Perry bronze and a rose bouquet. The Superhorse presentation is November 23 in the Jim Norick Arena.
The Oklahoma City Leading Owner Award is presented to the ownership that earns the most points with horses entered and shown in the 2013 Bank of America Amateur and AQHA Open World Championship Show. The ownership earning the most points will be awarded a bronze commissioned and presented by the Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce. The Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce has presented this special award since 1984. The Oklahoma City Leading Owner presentation is November 23 in the Jim Norick Arena.
The AQHA World Show is the pinnacle event for American Quarter Horse owners and exhibitors around the world, who must qualify for the event by earning a predetermined number of points to compete in each of the classes representing halter, English and western disciplines. More than 3,390 entries from the United States, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Germany, Mexico and the United Kingdom are competing for 98 world championships at this year’s event.
