1,800 People Introduced to American Quarter Horse on National Day of the Cowboy

The American Quarter Horse Foundation hosted 1,800 people on July 27 at the National Day of the Cowboy celebration at the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame & Museum in Amarillo. At the Foundation’s 9th annual National Day of the Cowboy celebration, local groups joined forces with the Foundation to offer entertaining and educational activities to the community.

A highlight of the event was a chance for youth to ride an American Quarter Horse. This year, the Foundation facilitated 200 rides, which gave many youth the opportunity to ride a Quarter Horse for the first time.

In addition to the Foundation, local partners included Amarillo National Bank, Reed Beverage, Coors Cowboy Club, the Amarillo Public Library, country music station 97.9 KGNC FM, Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum, Center City, Southwest Cowboy Poets Association and the Amarillo Convention & Visitors Council. These partners were proud to participate by leading activities amidst the fun planned by the Foundation. The free event featured:

– American Quarter Horse rides.
– Stories about cowboys with readings by employees of the Amarillo Public Library and cowgirl and cowboy poetry with the Southwest Cowboy Poets Association.
– Tours of the Hall of Fame & Museum, featuring the Horsemen of the World exhibit.
– Barrel racing on the lawn, creating a noodle pony, making cowboy trail mix, and making a mark on a Center City horse statue.
– Creating brands with volunteers from the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum.
– Roping with the Working Ranch Cowboy Association.

Thanks to the American Quarter Horse Foundation, Amarillo National Bank and our event partners the event, including all of the activities and lunch, was free to the public.
